Tech Lead, Platform Reliability Engineering

Asana is hiring a Tech Lead for its Platform Reliability Engineering team in Warsaw. The team builds core platform systems like load shedding, rate limiting, circuit breakers, and traffic controls to ensure Asana's resilience under real-world load. The role includes leading technical direction and architecture without people management responsibilities. The tech stack includes AWS, Kubernetes (EKS), MySQL (RDS), OpenSearch, DynamoDB, Redis, Terraform, Datadog, TypeScript, Scala, Go, and Python.

• Strong software engineering background; comfortable writing production code and designing systems using Go, Python, Scala, and TypeScript.
• 8+ years of experience building and operating backend systems at scale.
• Experience leading technical projects and influencing cross-team direction.
• Ability to improve peers through clarity, feedback, and raising technical standards.
• Familiarity with distributed systems patterns, including backpressure, graceful degradation, and capacity planning.
• Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), Terraform, and monitoring tools like Datadog.
• Experience defining and working within explicit reliability and performance targets for production systems.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to navigate trade-offs with platform and infrastructure teams.
• Curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them for productivity and collaboration.

• Set technical direction for the team, ensuring the right problems are addressed appropriately.
• Design and build core platform systems such as load shedding, circuit breakers, and rate limiting to protect Asana at scale.
• Own critical platform concerns including ingress and egress traffic flows.
• Define stable interfaces and libraries for other platform teams.
• Lead end-to-end projects from scoping and design through rollout across multiple platform teams.
• Raise technical quality through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship.
• Partner with other infrastructure teams to integrate reliability into Asana's architecture as a core design constraint.
• Debug complex issues across the stack, ensuring recurrence prevention.

This role is based in Warsaw with an office-centric hybrid schedule: in-office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; work from home option on Wednesday; Friday work-from-home depends on the work type and recruiter guidance.
