Senior Software Engineer, Platform Reliability

• Strong software engineering background with production coding and system design skills.
• 7+ years of experience building and operating backend systems at scale.
• Familiarity with distributed systems patterns including backpressure, graceful degradation, and capacity planning.
• Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), Terraform, and monitoring tools like Datadog.
• Experience defining and working with explicit reliability and performance targets for production systems.
• Clear communication and collaboration skills for working with multiple platform and infrastructure teams.
• Curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies with a willingness to learn and apply them.

Important: This is a software engineering role; backgrounds mainly in scripting, dashboards, or operational playbooks are not suitable.

• Design and build core platform systems such as load shedding, circuit breakers, and rate limiting to protect Asana at scale.
• Own critical platform concerns including ingress and egress, managing how traffic flows within systems.
• Define stable interfaces and libraries for other platform teams.
• Lead end-to-end projects from scoping, design to rollout, collaborating across multiple platform teams.
• Partner with infrastructure teams to integrate reliability into Asana's architecture as a foundational design.
• Debug complex issues across the stack, identifying root causes and preventing recurrence.
• Share knowledge through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship.
