FinOps Engineer

• 5+ years professional experience in FinOps, cloud cost engineering, platform engineering, or related roles.
• Hands-on experience with Azure cost management, including budgets, tagging strategies, and cost allocation.
• Solid understanding of cloud pricing and commitment models such as reserved instances and savings plans.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes cost drivers including AKS node pools and autoscaling.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python (pandas) for querying and reporting cost data; experience with dashboards like Grafana or Power BI.
• Understanding of AI/LLM cost economics, including inference pricing and GPU utilization.
• Experience in defining and driving cost-optimization programs.

Nice to have:

• FinOps Foundation certification.
• Experience with AI/ML workload cost governance at scale.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, Bicep.
• Experience with platforms like Databricks.
• Exposure to unit economics modeling.
• Experience in regulated industries (insurance, finance, healthcare).

• Build and maintain cost visibility across the platform including cost attribution, tagging standards, and dashboards understandable by engineers and Finance.
• Own cloud cost forecasting and budgeting and surface anomalies before overruns.
• Govern AI/LLM spend by attributing cost per team, workload, and model tier, tracking token consumption and GPU usage, and recommending cost-efficient model choices.
• Drive resource right-sizing programs to identify and reclaim idle or over-provisioned resources.
• Manage commitment-based discounts such as reserved instances and savings plans in Azure services.
• Establish FinOps practices and guardrails including budget alerts and cost-aware review gates.
• Instrument cost telemetry integrating Azure Cost Management and usage data into observability.
• Produce regular cost reporting for senior leadership and Finance.
• Embed cost awareness into architecture and design reviews advising engineering teams.
• Collaborate with Finance and Procurement on cloud commitments, vendor negotiations, and financial planning alignment.
