Senior Analytical Engineer

The Data Science & Analytics team at Asana transforms data into decisions by defining key questions, surfacing answers, and ensuring insights inform critical product and business calls. The role sits at the intersection of Data Engineering, Analytics, and Data Science, owning end-to-end data foundations for a business domain with responsibility for raw data transformation into trustworthy, business-ready datasets. The position is based in Asana's Warsaw office and employs a hybrid schedule with specific in-office days.

• Minimum 4 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or related analytics roles.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and data modeling fundamentals including dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, slowly changing dimensions, and semantic layer design.
• Hands-on experience with transformation frameworks like dbt, orchestration tools such as Airflow, version control using Git, and data platforms like Databricks.
• Experience in data quality testing, observability, schema management, data contracts, and query/model performance and cost tuning.
• Demonstrated domain knowledge in areas like PLG funnels, SLG pipeline, marketing attribution, product telemetry, or revenue/ARR.
• Strong skills in requirement gathering, prioritization, documentation, and cross-functional partnership.
• Curiosity about AI-native analytics including NL2SQL, semantic layers for self-service, and tools such as Claude and Genie.
• Exposure to Unity Catalog, Looker/LookML, and reverse-ETL or activation tools like Salesforce is a plus.

Core Responsibilities:

• Own the Gold data layer for a specific business domain, designing and improving dimensional data models.
• Implement and maintain canonical business logic behind core KPIs through governed and versioned metric marts.
• Build and curate semantic layers and Genie spaces enabling self-serve querying with plain language.
• Manage the metric dictionary as a single source of truth for metrics definitions and ownership.
• Author data contracts and SLAs at the Silver to Gold layer boundary, ensuring data quality and freshness.
• Develop and maintain certified, board-ready dashboards based on governed Gold data.
• Partner with Product & Business, Data Science, and Engineering teams to convert ambiguous questions into scalable datasets.

Additional:

• Drive alignment on KPIs and metric definitions across overlapping domains.
• Take ownership of data quality issues and on-call responsibilities related to Gold/metric-mart failures.

This role is based in the Warsaw office with a hybrid schedule: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday are standard in-office days; Wednesday and possibly Friday are optional work-from-home days.
