Software Development Engineer II, UFA

Remitly is a company focused on providing secure, simple, and reliable global money transfer and financial services. The company has over 2,800 employees worldwide and is building UFA (User Financial Accounts), a new platform serving as the source of truth for customer balances and the foundation for wallets, safeguarded fiat accounts, credit and lending products, and promotions.

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in backend languages such as Java, Kotlin, or Go, and experience building scalable, distributed systems.
• Experience managing production systems in cloud environments such as AWS, including participation in on-call rotations.
• Strong understanding of relational and non-relational databases and data modeling trade-offs at scale.
• Strong instinct for correctness and operational risk.
• Effective communication skills in English (B2+), including collaboration across time zones.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Comfort using AI tools across the development lifecycle.

• Build and design core services and APIs central to UFA, ensuring strict correctness in recording and moving customer money.
• Address distributed-systems problems including consistency, atomicity of financial operations, idempotency, and handling partial failures.
• Assist in launching new regulated markets and implement platform capabilities related to licensing and safeguarding.
• Deliver technical designs through to production readiness as part of cross-team initiatives.
• Participate in design decisions, weighing trade-offs with focus on maintainability, reliability, and cost.
• Collaborate with partner teams and external banking/payment partners.
• Engage in design and code reviews to improve team quality.
• Work closely with Product and Operations to clarify requirements and manage risks.

Nice to have:

• Experience with payments, fintech, or banking platforms, particularly related to ledger or wallet systems.
• Experience with regulated or compliance-sensitive systems such as safeguarding, PCI scope, or financial reporting.
• Background in building multi-tenant platform services or infrastructure supporting diverse workloads.
• Experience working directly with external banking partners, card networks, or payment processors.
• Knowledge of observability and operational excellence in financial systems with real financial risk for downtime or inconsistency.
