Software Development Engineer II, UFA

Remitly is a company founded in 2011 focused on providing secure and reliable global money transfer and financial services for customers worldwide. The role is within the UFA (User Financial Accounts) team that builds a general-purpose platform for customer balances and financial products like wallets and lending. The platform is deploying in regulated markets starting with the UK, followed by EU and UAE, with a team based in Kraków.

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficient in backend languages such as Java, Kotlin, or Go with experience building scalable distributed systems.
• Experience operating production systems in the cloud, especially AWS, including on-call rotations.
• Solid knowledge of relational and non-relational databases and data modeling at scale.
• Instinct for correctness and operational risk judgment.
• Effective communication skills with partners across time zones; at least B2+ English.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Comfortable using AI tools across the development lifecycle.

Nice to have:

• Experience in payments, fintech, or banking-platforms, especially ledger, wallet, or money-movement systems.
• Experience with regulated or compliance-sensitive systems (safeguarding, PCI scope, financial reporting).
• Experience building multi-tenant platform services or shared infrastructure.
• Experience working directly with external banking partners, card networks, or payment processors.
• Understanding of observability and operational excellence in high-cost downtime environments.

• Build and design core services and APIs for the UFA platform that record, validate, and move customer money.
• Work on distributed-systems challenges including consistency, atomicity across multi-step operations, idempotency, and handling partial failure.
• Help deploy new regulated markets starting with the UK, then expanding to the EU and UAE.
• Deliver features from technical design through production readiness as part of cross-team initiatives.
• Contribute to design decisions with attention to maintainability, reliability, and cost.
• Collaborate with partner teams and external banking and payment partners.
• Participate in design and code reviews and improve team quality standards.
• Partner with Product and Operations to clarify requirements, manage risks, and plan deliveries.
