Senior Scala Engineer, Storage Platform

Box is an AI-first company building an exabyte-scale storage platform spanning multiple GCP and AWS regions worldwide. The Storage Clients team creates critical gateway services powering upload, download, and collaboration features for millions of users internationally.

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of software development experience in distributed systems
• Experience designing, building, and deploying high-quality software
• Passion for building highly available and scalable distributed systems
• Proficiency in Scala or Java as backend languages
• Ability to solve complex technical problems using data-driven solutions
• Ownership attitude and strong team interaction skills
• Proficient English communication skills

Nice to have:

• Experience in email clients, FTP clients, SDKs, and PHP

• Design, build, and maintain backend services in Java, Scala, and PHP that power critical content flows
• Model best practices for reliable, scalable, and maintainable systems and code
• Plan and execute projects and quarterly deliverables
• Measure system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize accordingly
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups and sprint planning
• Contribute code reviews ensuring quality standards
• Participate in on-call rotation, triaging any arising issues

Box requires employees to work from the assigned office a minimum of 3 days per week, focusing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
