Solution Architect

We are looking for an experienced Solution Architect (m/f/n) to support a long-term project delivered for an organization of the European Commission based in Brussels.

• Education: EQF7 in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or IT
• At least 10 years as an IT solution architect and IT project leadership
• Minimum 5 years contributing to development of technical standards with bodies such as OIDF, ISO, CEN/CENELEC, ETSI
• Author or co-author of at least 2 peer-reviewed publications in IT, electronics or mathematics
• Minimum 1 year experience with tokenisation projects aligned with EU regulatory frameworks
• At least 7 years in architecture governance and documentation practices including decision records and C4 diagrams
• Experience designing enterprise applications, middleware, microservices architectures, APIs, and database management systems (minimum 7 years)
• At least 5 years working with cloud services (e.g. AWS, Azure) including observability and monitoring (logging, tracing, metrics) and programming with Go, C++ or equivalent
• Minimum 10 years experience with networking concepts and protocols
• At least 5 years applying cybersecurity principles and standards like ISO 27001, OWASP, Zero Trust
• 7 years with OAuth2 and OIDC, including 5 years with OID4VC or similar credential exchange protocols
• 5 years experience with data models such as W3C VCDM, SD-JWT and mDoc including data modelling
• Minimum 2 years defining digital signature profiles
• At least 1 year experience with zero-knowledge proof frameworks like Gnark or Longfellow-zk
• 1 year implementing real-world asset tokenisation
• 1 year experience implementing EU policies related to carbon markets
• 1 year experience with customs procedures
• Excellent English (minimum C1 CEFR) with strong communication skills

• Lead research, design, and validation of software architectures for the EU Verify service combining Web3, distributed systems, cryptography, and decentralised identity technologies
• Conduct advanced technical research on distributed ledger technologies and trust infrastructures
• Evaluate and compare architectural approaches using formal analysis, modelling, proof-of-concepts, and performance assessments
• Assess impact of standards, scientific advances and regulations on system architecture
• Provide technical leadership to align research, engineering, and architectural strategy
• Produce architectural studies, technical white papers, and research reports
• Design business and technical architectures including measurable non-functional requirements
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyse requirements
• Evaluate and select technologies and frameworks
• Create and maintain architectural artifacts including Solution Context diagrams, C4 model views, API contracts, data models, threat models, deployment diagrams
• Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and reliable
• Guide development teams during implementation
• Ensure adherence to enterprise standards such as Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP)
• Identify and mitigate risks and technical challenges
• Assess and incorporate emerging technologies
• Provide technical leadership and support to teams and stakeholders
• Define integration patterns (e.g., event-driven, Enterprise Integration Patterns), data flows, API standards (OpenAPI/AsyncAPI)
• Define architecture for verifiable credential exchange, signature profiles, zero knowledge proof for unlinkable and privacy preserving proofs
• Define digitalization strategies for public administrations

Services must be performed from within the EU. Two physical meetings with the customer are foreseen per 12-month period, maximum 2 days each, at the contractor’s cost.
