Lead Python Backend Engineer

Reef Technologies is a fully remote Python backend software house with over 8 years of history. It is a small, agile, senior-only team where the founder is also a programmer, closely collaborating with the team. The company operates globally, hiring in EMEA and APAC regions, and applies Sociocracy 3.0 decision-making processes.

• At least 5 years of programming experience, including at least 1 year with Python, encompassing open source and personal projects
• Minimum two years of team management experience
• Project management skills, including planning, estimating, and oversight of backend projects
• Strong client communication skills for technical discussions and requirement translation
• Strategic thinking and contribution to technical vision
• Strong technical leadership and mentorship abilities
• Ability to foster team development and collaboration
• Ownership mindset with responsibility for code quality and reliability
• Proactive attitude towards project completion and anticipating issues
• Experience with Linux / Unix and Databases

• Lead and guide a backend engineering team
• Plan, estimate, and oversee execution of complex backend projects from start to finish
• Communicate confidently with clients, manage expectations, and translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Anticipate technical challenges and contribute to long-term technical vision
• Guide and mentor developers, make key architectural decisions, and ensure code quality
• Foster a collaborative environment and facilitate knowledge sharing
• Take full ownership of code from development to deployment, ensuring quality and reliability
• Proactively see projects through from start to finish and anticipate potential issues
