Senior Software Engineer

Tesco is a technology company with over 4,000 experts across the UK, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, and India. The Technology team focuses on creating proprietary solutions to solve large-scale problems across various domains including architecture, design, testing, deployment, infrastructure, operation, and security to ensure agile and efficient system operations.

• Minimum 6 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong Java development skills with the Spring Framework.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset.
• Basic system design skills.
• Deep understanding of metrics, logs, traces, alerting strategies, and performance monitoring.
• Experience with observability frameworks and standards such as OpenTelemetry.
• Knowledge of event-driven systems and event sourcing patterns.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.

Nice to have:

• Familiarity with SQL databases and distributed systems concepts.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana, Victoria Metrics, or New Relic.
• Experience troubleshooting complex distributed systems in production.

• Build and operate observability for a distributed Retail Platform across cloud and edge components.
• Design metrics, logging, tracing, and telemetry.
• Build monitoring pipelines, dashboards, and alerting systems.
• Define SLIs, SLOs, and reliability metrics.
• Create operational analytics for rollout progress, failure detection, and capacity planning.
• Integrate telemetry from cloud services, edge devices, and infrastructure into centralized platforms.
• Automate issue detection and root-cause analysis and develop self-service reporting.
• Drive observability standards and monitoring strategies across the Retail Platform.
• Work 60% of the week onsite in Kraków, remainder remotely.
