Engineering Team Lead - Email Security (Imunify Email & Email Gateway) (remote)

CloudLinux is the maker of Imunify360 — a suite of security products protecting millions of websites across the web hosting industry. They build an email security product line covering inbound anti-spam and outbound SMTP gateway solutions for hosting providers, integrated with hosting control panels. The team is fully remote and works with technologies such as Go, Python, Elasticsearch, Redis, Grafana, GitLab, and Jenkins.

• 5+ years as a software engineer with 2+ years leading engineering teams in a product company.
• Strong hands-on Linux expertise; proficient in reading and reviewing production Go and/or Python code and debugging live systems.
• Experience operating distributed backend services under production load, including incident management.
• Ability to master complex technical domains quickly and make credible architectural decisions.
• Practical fluency with observability and data tools like Grafana, Kibana/Elasticsearch, Redash, or equivalents.
• Demonstrated people leadership including conducting 1:1s, performance reviews, hiring, and career growth.
• Experience or strong interest in AI-assisted development workflows.
• Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
• Availability to work EU hours.

Nice to have:

• Knowledge of email infrastructure: SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, rDNS, IP reputation, warm-up processes, RBLs, feedback loops.
• Experience with open-source mail stacks such as Rspamd, SpamAssassin, Postfix, Exim, Halon, or familiarity with web hosting control panels like cPanel/WHM.
• Exposure to ML model lifecycle including training data quality and evaluation metrics.
• Experience managing incidents and escalations with external partners.

Delivery:

• Turn the product backlog into a sequenced engineering plan with estimates, dependencies, and a release train.
• Run weekly team cadence including planning, release readiness, and status reporting.
• Own engineering quality gates for model releases with measurements and rollback paths.
• Keep technical debt visible and negotiate funding into the roadmap.
• Report delivery status and risks to engineering leadership with clear ownership and due dates.

Technical direction:

• Own the email stack architecture, review designs, approve ADRs, and make build-vs-buy decisions.
• Review code and designs on critical paths to set quality and observability standards.
• Own production health including SLOs, alerting, capacity, and deliverability posture.
• Act as incident commander for product-impacting events and author timely post-mortems.

People:

• Lead a distributed team with 1:1s, goal setting, performance reviews, and career development.
• Hire by defining profiles, running interviews, onboarding, and mentoring engineers.
• Set async working agreements emphasizing written decisions and durable communication.

AI-augmented engineering:

• Model and coach effective use of coding agents including prompt specificity, review quality, error recovery, and task completion.

Working with Product Owner:

• Own delivery plans and manage technical risks.
• Escalate scope-capacity conflicts early with mitigation options.

First 90 days plan:

• Own release train and team status, trace email message flows, and assess team strengths.
• Manage on-call duties and incidents, publish SLOs and reliability risks, implement changes.
• Present a technical roadmap with debt paydown and staffing recommendations.
