R&D Senior Software Developer (C++)

Hitachi Energy develops real-time software systems for critical infrastructure with a focus on power grid management and monitoring. The company works with global technology teams to create secure, high-performance software supporting power systems and industrial automation.

• University degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of experience in senior technical roles.
• Advanced proficiency in modern C++ (C++17/20), including RAII, smart pointers, STL, concurrency, and memory management.
• Practical knowledge of C# development is a plus.
• Strong experience with multithreading, synchronization primitives, asynchronous I/O, and real-time system design.
• Proficiency with building systems using CMake and Visual Studio.
• Cross-platform development experience for Windows and Linux.
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture patterns.
• Experience with performance profiling, optimization, and low-latency systems.
• Understanding of software architecture principles and secure, scalable system design.
• Good understanding of unit and integration testing techniques and testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of non-functional requirements including performance, scalability, and security.
• Practical experience developing systems for power grid management and monitoring.
• Understanding of power grid operations, applicable standards, and industrial automation systems such as SCADA, IED, and RTU.
• Experience with industrial protocols and standards like IEC-60870-5-104, DNP3, OPC UA, and IEEE C37.118 is a plus.
• Practical experience working directly with power grid industry clients.
• Proven ability to translate customer requirements into clear technical designs.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
• Excellent command of English, written and spoken.

• Develop system design in areas like multithreading, synchronization, asynchronous I/O, and latency requirements for real-time operation.
• Develop high-performance C++ cores to manage runtime services including .NET and Rust with minimal latency overhead.
• Implement performance optimization and scalability by profiling threading behavior, minimizing lock contention, and reducing memory allocations.
• Maintain high code quality through code reviews, unit testing, and adherence to SOLID, KISS, and DRY principles.
• Participate in technical architecture reviews, design documentation, feature roadmaps, refactoring initiatives, and legacy code modernization.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into clear architectural designs.
• Support technology decisions on dependencies, build tooling, dependency management, and secure software supply chain practices.
• Maintain cross-platform support for Linux and Windows, driving modernization of build systems.
• Apply practical Linux development and deployment strategies.
• Continuously enhance existing systems and contribute to new feature creation.
• Work effectively within an agile environment and participate in a cross-disciplinary team.
