Senior Software Engineer

Bayer is a company operating in a regulated Pharma R&D environment, engaging in digital and scientific projects involving biology, chemistry, and pharmacology expertise. The team focuses on building scalable solutions for R&D applications with cross-functional collaboration.

• Excellent university degree in Computer Science or equivalent natural science degree (e.g., computational biology, chemistry).
• 5–8+ years of professional experience with expert-level skills in at least two modern programming languages including Python, Kotlin, Go, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Experience with backend development and/or frontend frameworks such as React.js.
• Experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS), containerization, and serverless architecture.
• Hands-on expertise in data engineering and/or data science.
• Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
• Comfortable making technical decisions in ambiguous problem spaces.
• Proven experience leading engineering initiatives and mentoring others.
• Experience working with natural scientists and in regulated environments (e.g., GxP) is a plus.

• Design, develop, and continuously deploy complex technical solutions (full stack) in a regulated Pharma R&D environment.
• Drive architectural decisions for scalable systems while contributing hands-on development.
• Work in cross-functional teams with IT and R&D experts in biology, chemistry, and pharmacology.
• Define and execute a technical vision for the R&D application landscape focusing on business value.
• Identify technical risks and gaps, propose solutions, and guide the team towards robust outcomes.
• Mentor engineers and support technical growth across teams.
• Introduce new technologies and improve engineering workflows.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to enhance code quality and delivery speed.
• Combine technical expertise with scientific knowledge such as computational biology or chemistry.
