Senior Data Governance Engineer (GCP)

Square One Resources is recruiting for a senior role to join a strategic data transformation program focused on migrating analytical environments from on-premise architecture to a modern Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data platform supporting business processes, advanced analytics, and AI/LLM adoption.

• 3–5 years of professional experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in Data Engineer, Data Governance Engineer, or similar role.
• 3–5 years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, or Data Quality domains.
• Strong practical knowledge of the Google Cloud Platform ecosystem, especially BigQuery, Dataplex, and Data Catalog / Knowledge Catalog.
• Experience with metadata management, data modeling, data catalog development, data lineage implementation, data quality frameworks, and data ownership and stewardship processes.
• Advanced SQL skills including query optimization, complex aggregations, performance tuning, and data transformation logic.
• Understanding of data governance concepts and best practices.
• Experience creating technical documentation and participating in code reviews.
• Ability to work effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and data owners.

Nice to have:

• Experience with Apache Spark.
• Programming skills in Python.
• Experience with Kubernetes environments.
• Knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Experience with Looker.
• Familiarity with Vertex AI.
• Experience designing enterprise data architectures.
• Knowledge of batch and streaming data processing patterns.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and monitoring/SLO practices.
• Interest in AI/LLM technologies and modern data platforms.
• Previous experience with cloud migration projects, especially migrating analytical environments to GCP.

• Design and implement Data Governance processes and standards within the GCP environment.
• Develop and maintain enterprise data catalog solutions and metadata management processes.
• Define metadata models, data catalog structures, and relationships between data assets.
• Implement and maintain mechanisms supporting Data Lineage, Data Quality, Data Ownership, and Data Stewardship.
• Define, document, and enforce data access management policies and standards.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering, BI, Analytics teams, and business stakeholders to improve data governance maturity.
• Support business users in discovering, understanding, and effectively using available data assets.
• Participate in defining and implementing Data Contracts and data exchange standards.
• Create and maintain technical documentation related to governance processes, standards, and data models.
• Contribute to improving data security, quality, and usability across the organization.
• Participate in technical discussions, solution design, and code reviews.
