Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE & Platform Reliability)

Affirm is reinventing credit to provide flexible buy now, pay later solutions without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team supports Engineering partners by defining frameworks, best practices, building tooling, and providing training. The team has experience in infrastructure, platform, distributed systems, capacity management, load and chaos testing, automation, observability, configuration management, development, and product experience.

• 4+ years experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using scripting and development languages like Bash, Python or Kotlin.
• Experience developing highly available distributed systems using technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience contributing to or driving Incident Lifecycle processes to improve reliability and system performance.
• 4+ years working in a Site Reliability or Production Engineering team.
• Demonstrate curiosity with empathy and strong opinions loosely held.
• Experience defining technical plans for delivering significant features or system components with elegant, simple, extensible design.
• Experience making impactful changes in a large codebase with tools and practices ensuring safety.
• Proactive ownership of personal growth, seeking feedback from team and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with a global engineering team.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, guiding engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, product management, developer experience, and analytics teams in product development lifecycle.
• Identify technical solutions and operational processes to improve incident readiness, response, and post-incident analysis.
• Support operations and availability through metrics monitoring, escalation, and on-call efforts.
• Set or improve code review and design standards, advocate for them through writing and tech talks.
• Develop team talent by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
