Data Platform Software Engineering Principal, State Street Investment Management, Vice President

• 12+ years of software engineering experience delivering large-scale, distributed systems.
• BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Strong object-oriented design skills including design patterns, SOLID principles, and modern engineering best practices.
• Strong proficiency in Java (preferred) and/or Python to build scalable, high-performance services.
• Proven experience designing, building, and operating microservices and APIs (REST, RPC, gRPC, OpenAPI) with backward compatibility and resilience.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native deployments on AWS and/or Azure, integrating with Snowflake and Databricks.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep).
• Experience building event-driven systems using messaging/streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, Event Hubs, Flink).
• Observability and production operations experience: logging/metrics/tracing (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana), on-call, and incident response.
• Strong SDLC execution: CI/CD, automated testing, secure-by-default development, and production support/on-call.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, experience leading teams, coaching, and collaborating with engineering and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with AI-assisted SDLC tools (e.g., Copilot/Claude Code) and secure usage guidelines.
• Experience building internal developer automation tools and integrating engineering operations with human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Familiarity with AI governance in regulated environments and operationalizing AI engineering tools with CI/CD integration.

• Hands-on design and delivery of core backend services including APIs, microservices, orchestration/workflow, metadata/access services, with production code writing and review.
• Architect distributed components on AWS/Azure focusing on low latency, resiliency, scalability, and clear service boundaries.
• Own software operations including on-call, incident response, backfills, post-incident reviews, and reliability improvements.
• Build and operate migration frameworks/utilities for Snowflake and Databricks with validation, observability, rollback, and replayability.
• Engineer security-by-design for services including authentication/authorization, secrets management, encryption/KMS, network controls, and audit-ready logging integrated with Snowflake/Databricks.
• Design low-latency, event-driven integration patterns using Kafka/Kinesis/Event Hubs with replay, idempotency, schema management, and failure handling.
• Deliver internal tools and developer experience enablers such as admin/onboarding tools, diagnostics dashboards, SDKs/CLIs, client libraries, and templates.
• Lead agile delivery practices including standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives, and leverage AI-assisted tools to improve SDLC and quality.
• Set engineering direction and standards for the Data Platform, partnering with Data Engineering/Analytics leaders.
• Build and lead a software engineering pod; hire, coach, and develop technical leaders; own team performance management and reviews.

The position requires office presence at least 3 days per week in Krakow, Poland.
