Microsoft Fabric & Power BI Data Modeling Specialist

The role is for a project within digital transformation of the Finance area aiming to create a scalable, standardized, and future-proof data platform that supports controlling, reporting, planning, and business performance management. The team combines financial business knowledge with modern data platforms, reporting solutions, and digital decision support tools. Key project element is building a durable data architecture in the Microsoft ecosystem, especially using Microsoft Fabric, including OneLake, Semantic Models, Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Direct Lake, and Dataflows Gen2.

• Higher education in computer science, economic informatics, mathematics, Data Science, or related fields.
• Several years of experience in building data platforms, Data Warehouse solutions, and analytical architectures.
• Thorough knowledge of Finance and Controlling processes including planning, forecasting, reporting, and performance management.
• Documented experience in data-driven transformation projects and analytical initiatives.
• Extensive practical experience with Microsoft Fabric components: OneLake, Semantic Models, Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Direct Lake, Dataflows Gen2.
• Strong knowledge of data modeling techniques such as Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, Dimensional Modeling, and semantic layer design.
• Expert knowledge of SQL and relational and analytical databases.
• Advanced experience with Power BI, including DAX, Measures, Time Intelligence, performance optimization, and data model architecture.
• Experience integrating data from SAP systems such as S/4HANA, BW, or SAC.
• Experience designing and implementing Data Governance, Data Quality, and data standardization concepts.
• Familiarity with modern cloud and analytical platforms.
• Knowledge of Python or Spark is an additional advantage.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform, especially Power Apps and Power Automate, is a plus.
• Very good analytical and conceptual skills.
• Excellent understanding of end-to-end data architectures and flows.
• Ability to translate complex business requirements into robust data models and technical architectures.
• Independent, organized work style focused on effective solutions.
• Experience working in agile environments, preferably following SAFe methodology.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with business and technical teams.
• Language skills: German and English at minimum B2 level.

Project Tasks:

• Design, build, and develop data architecture based on Microsoft Fabric components including OneLake, Dataflows, Semantic Models, and central data products.
• Design and optimize scalable data models for reporting, analysis, and planning within Finance.
• Design and implement a Single Source of Truth solution for key financial and management indicators.
• Integrate, harmonize, and model data from multiple source systems, especially SAP and other business applications.
• Implement standards for databases and data modeling ensuring data quality, consistency, and reusability.
• Create and optimize Semantic Models, Measures, KPI structures, and Time Intelligence solutions in Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
• Advise on transforming existing reporting and analytics solutions towards a modern data platform based on Fabric.
• Analyze Finance and Controlling business requirements and translate them into efficient data models and technical solutions.
• Produce technical concepts, documentation, and architectural guidelines for data products and reporting solutions.
• Analyze and optimize performance of data structures and reporting solutions.
• Provide consultancy and knowledge transfer to business and technical teams on modern data architectures, Microsoft Fabric, and best modeling practices.
• Work in an agile SAFe environment collaborating closely with Finance, IT, Data Engineering, and other stakeholders.
