QA Automation Engineer (IDEA Ultimate QA)

The IDEA Ultimate team supports enterprise frameworks, data-access stacks, and application servers in IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate, including technologies like Spring, Jakarta EE, Quarkus, Micronaut, and application servers such as Tomcat, WildFly, and Jetty. The QA Automation Engineer role is part of the IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate QA team ensuring product quality for JVM backend developers.

• Proven experience in test automation.
• Solid programming skills in Kotlin/Java.
• Experience with test frameworks like JUnit or TestNG.
• Familiarity with build tools like Maven and Gradle.
• Understanding of software testing principles and methodologies.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as TeamCity.
• Experience with reporting tools like Allure.
• Version control experience with Git.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Responsibility, self-discipline, and self-learning skills.
• Strong teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and creatively.

Nice to have:

• Experience testing developer tools, IDEs, and desktop applications.
• Familiarity with JVM Frameworks (Spring or Jakarta) and databases.

• Design, develop, and maintain multi-platform automated test scenarios for Linux, Windows, macOS, Docker, and WSL environments.
• Expand test coverage for new and existing functionality.
• Debug and troubleshoot test failures.
• Improve automation to reduce test flakiness.
• Track quality metrics including testing coverage and failure rate.
• Contribute to frameworks and tools with product-specific extensions.
• Monitor test execution results and investigate failures.
• Participate in release quality assessments.
• Collaborate with QA and developers to define test strategies.
• Conduct manual QA activities as needed.
• Participate in creating test documentation.
• Improve domain-specific test infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines within the team.
• Share automation best practices.
• Work with the tooling team to adopt new frameworks and practices.
