Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby), Plan: Spec-Driven Development

• Strong experience with Ruby on Rails in large production codebases and production experience with Python.
• Experience leading substantial projects involving multiple engineers with clear user or business outcomes.
• Product mindset with experience owning features end to end, including shaping scope, trade-offs, user engagement, and post-launch learning.
• Full stack background with current focus on backend engineering and ability to read modern frontend code and design effective APIs.
• Strong API design and SQL fundamentals.
• Experience exploring AI-assisted development.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across functions and regions, providing technical leadership and mentoring.
• Experience with GraphQL, PostgreSQL performance at scale, or building and evaluating large language model or agent systems is helpful but not required.

• Lead backend features from early product discussions through technical design, implementation, rollout, and post-launch learning.
• Build flows, APIs, and data models behind agent-generated work items, implementation plans, durable specifications, and mergeable code.
• Develop evaluation and benchmarking systems measuring workflow quality, token cost, and success rate.
• Use Ruby on Rails and Python with PostgreSQL, GraphQL, REST APIs, GitLab Duo Agent Platform, large language model APIs, and AI gateway to build reliable production systems.
• Collaborate with product, design, engineers, design partners, and users to shape scope and make trade-offs.
• Coordinate multi-person projects and communicate decisions clearly in an all-remote asynchronous environment.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical direction across Plan group and AI initiatives.
• Work in short iterations, share progress via demos, and use feedback to guide next steps.
