Senior Scala Engineer

Box Inc. develops infrastructure software powering its critical content ingress and egress flows. The Storage Clients team builds gateway services enabling millions of users to sync, download, collaborate, and move content across an exabyte-scale platform spanning multiple GCP and AWS regions worldwide.

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of software development experience in distributed systems
• Experience designing, building, and deploying high-quality software
• Passion for building highly available and scalable distributed systems at large scale
• Strong coding proficiency in backend languages such as Scala and Java
• Ability to solve complex technical problems using data-driven solutions
• Ownership mindset and pride in technical work and team interactions
• Proficient English language skills

Nice to have:

• Experience with email clients, FTP clients, SDKs, and PHP

• Design, build, and maintain backend services in Java, Scala, and PHP that power Box's content flows
• Model best practices for systems and code with sound architectures ensuring reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• Plan and execute projects and quarterly deliverables effectively
• Measure system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize accordingly
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups and sprint planning
• Contribute to code reviews to ensure quality standards
• Participate in on-call rotation to respond and triage issues

Boxers are expected to work from their assigned office a minimum of 3 days per week, focusing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
