Lead Gameplay Engineer (NPC Behavior)

CD PROJEKT RED is developing a new original IP called Project Hadar, an RPG universe being built from the ground up with focus on story-driven gameplay. The role is within the Engineering department and involves building NPC community and behavior technologies for this emerging game project.

• 7+ years of experience in developing NPC behavior systems in AA/AAA projects.
• Proven experience leading a development team.
• Experience in successfully shipping at least one game.
• Expertise in C++ coding principles and practices.
• Nice to have: experience in Unreal Engine 4 or Unreal Engine 5.
• Strong communication and team leadership skills.
• Experience in risk management and team development.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• Familiarity with agile ways of working.
• Value openness, constructive feedback sharing, respectful dialogue, curiosity, adaptability, and team spirit.

• Build and lead a team responsible for NPC community and behavior technology design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance.
• Collaborate with game designers, animators, writers, and other specialists.
• Partner with design, QA, production, and other teams to define technical scope, timelines, and priorities.
• Debug, profile, and resolve technical challenges across large-scale systems.
• Conduct code reviews and maintain clean, modular, and maintainable code.
• Define and document technical standards.
• Collaborate on rapid prototyping, R&D, and testing new technologies and ideas.
