Lead Software Engineer

HERE Technologies is a location data and technology platform company. The HERE NDS (Navigation Database Standard) Technologies team develops a map compilation product that creates a comprehensive high-definition live map for precise navigation in self-driving cars. HERE is a founding member of the NDS Association and a pioneer in developing the Navigation Data Standard and NDS.Live, industry standard formats for automotive map data. The development team is located in Poland with leadership in Germany and follows Agile practices, cooperating with multiple teams inside and outside the company.

• Bachelor or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent
• Backend application development experience with Java and Scala
• Solid knowledge of programming practices, emphasizing reusable, flexible, and reliable code
• Proven experience as a tech lead and mentor for engineering teams of 4–8 engineers
• Self-motivated, well-organized, detail-oriented, and a strong team player with an agile mindset
• Strong quality mindset including unit testing, performance testing, and writing testable code
• Infrastructure experience: Maven, SBT, GIT, GERRIT, Apache Spark, AWS, Linux environment
• Very good communication skills in English, both written and spoken

Nice to have:

• Experience with map data such as NDS, GIS, RDF, GDF
• Experience with data transformation scripting and ETL
• Experience with schema-driven development frameworks like Zserio, Protobuf, FlatBuffers, or similar
• Hands-on experience with Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process assessment model

• Develop well-crafted software that steadily adds business value
• Engage with internal and external customers to define application specifications
• Own one or more components of the software architecture
• Lead an agile team and share knowledge through proactive communication
• Drive and improve engineering best practices including agile, coding, and verification
• Define complex, cross-subsystem/product designs for implementation
• Set the technical vision and roadmap for the compiler and validation stack
• Make key technical decisions on performance, scalability, and correctness of the compilation pipeline
• Mentor and grow a team of software engineers fostering engineering excellence
