Product Engineer / Product Builder - Backend or Full-stack

At Profitroom, we build hospitality software used by thousands of hotels and millions of guests. Our Product Engineers own technical solutions end-to-end: from understanding the problem and contributing to technical discovery, through implementation and testing, to release, production and continuous improvement.

• Experience shipping software used by real customers with knowledge of what worked and what needed change.
• Ability to understand the customer and business problem before deciding solutions.
• Preference for owning problems end-to-end rather than executing fully specified tickets.
• Ability to explain technical trade-offs to Product Managers and business rationale to engineers.
• Strong opinion on quality beyond code review or QA handover.
• Experience using AI tools beyond autocomplete, for technical discovery, implementation, testing, debugging, and engineering workflows.
• Willingness to work outside primary technical area to deliver better outcomes.
• Ability to ask value questions before implementation.

Backend-led profile:

• Strong commercial experience with PHP, Laravel, or Symfony.
• Experience designing backend systems, business logic, data modelling, REST APIs, integrations.
• Experience with microservices, event-driven or distributed architectures.
• Knowledge of relational/non-relational databases, caching, message queues.
• Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD, and production infrastructure.
• Openness to working with JavaScript or TypeScript beyond backend.

Full-stack profile:

• Strong commercial experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, and Vue.js.
• Experience with component architecture, state management, performance, maintainable frontend systems.
• Knowledge of Tailwind and Pinia or similar tools.
• Commercial experience with PHP and Laravel.
• Confidence working with APIs, business logic, databases, caching, and backend integrations.
• UX sensibility for interaction problems and accessibility.
• Ability to deliver frontend and backend changes in same feature.

Bonus points:

• Built and shipped side projects.
• Use AI tools independently and develop workflows.
• Built MCP servers, agents, or AI tools.
• Experience with Event Sourcing or CQRS.
• Contribution to design systems or component libraries.
• Designed solutions involving caching, queues, integrations.
• Owned a product or feature from problem to production outcomes.

Scope of cooperation:

• Lead backend services or ship complete user-facing features across frontend and backend.
• Validate feasibility, identify constraints, and shape technical approaches before scope is locked.
• Select solutions balancing customer value, delivery speed, maintainability, and operational risk.
• Ensure testing, releasing, monitoring, and involvement during rollout and hypercare.
• Use AI-augmented development tools like Claude Code, MCP servers, and AI agents as part of daily workflow.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Managers, QA, and other engineers contributing context and trade-offs.
• Continuously improve products, systems, and engineering practices.

Backend-led Product Engineer:

• Own backend with strong commercial experience in PHP and Laravel or Symfony.
• Design backend systems including business logic, data modelling, REST APIs, and integrations.
• Work with microservices, event-driven systems, relational/non-relational databases, caching, and message queues.
• Use Docker, CI/CD, and production infrastructure.
• Contribute outside the backend when tasks require it.

Full-stack Product Engineer:

• Deliver across stack with strengths in frontend using TypeScript, JavaScript, and Vue.js.
• Experience with component architecture, state management, performance, and maintainable frontend systems.
• Knowledge of Tailwind and Pinia or similar tools.
• Commercial experience with PHP and Laravel.
• Work confidently with APIs, business logic, databases, caching, and backend integrations.
• UX sensibility to detect interaction problems and inconsistencies.
• Deliver frontend and backend changes as part of the same feature.
