Senior Backend Engineer

Fundraise Up is a global fundraising platform that enables fast, seamless donations to nonprofits worldwide. The company serves leading nonprofits such as UNICEF and the Alzheimer's Association, operating in the enterprise segment across North America, the UK, Australia, and Europe. Their product is a large, complex ecosystem including a modern checkout experience, customizable widgets, donor and partner portals, admin tools, and internal apps. The engineering team consists of 80+ engineers distributed across multiple countries, with a strong culture of technical curiosity and collaboration.

• 7+ years of backend development experience, preferably in a product-driven environment.
• Strong, hands-on experience with Node.js and modern frameworks like Koa or NestJS.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript, including advanced typing and module systems.
• Solid experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture using tools like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Bull/Redis.
• Hands-on experience with ClickHouse (or similar analytics databases) and Elasticsearch.
• Strong understanding of system design, clean architecture principles, and performance optimization.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and deliver projects to completion.
• Comfortable working within a Russian-speaking team.

Nice to have:

• Prior experience in a remote-first, globally distributed team.
• Experience with performance monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
• Interest in the non-profit technology sector.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Design, build, and maintain clean, efficient, and scalable backend services in Node.js and TypeScript.

• Own key parts of the backend architecture, making decisions to enhance performance, reliability, and security.
• Write comprehensive unit tests and conduct thorough code reviews.
• Proactively identify and implement system improvements, including refactoring legacy code.
• Mentor others and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence.
• Use AI tools actively in day-to-day work to improve problem-solving and workflows.
