• Product design leadership experience managing managers and coaching senior designers.
• Experience leading design in complex or developer-facing products.
• Strong craft authority and ability to uphold quality standards.
• Proven strategic influence making design a co-equal partner in product decisions.
• Expertise in problem-solving under ambiguity with structured planning.
• Understanding of AI, automation, and emerging tooling in product experiences.
• Research literacy to integrate insight into product development.
• Data-informed decision making using analytics and customer evidence.
• Skill in organizational design, career paths, and performance management.

Nice to have:

• Experience with open-source, community-led, or builder-driven products.
• Front-end or design engineering fluency.
• Experience with remote-first operating systems and distributed team collaboration.
• Background in growth surface areas like activation and onboarding.

Own the quality bar:

• Set a clear, consistent quality bar for the design team.
• Build review and critique processes to support strong craft decisions.
• Evolve the design system and QA practices as the team grows.
• Address the UX challenge of lowering the learning curve for new users without sacrificing power for experienced users.

Drive design's strategic influence:

• Shape product strategy by integrating design thinking early in roadmap discussions.
• Lead n8n's strategic expansion toward a broader, less technical user base.
• Cultivate thought partnership between design, product, engineering, and leadership.

Build and grow the team:

• Lead a team of around 14 designers including design leads, design engineering, and UX research.
• Define team structure, career frameworks, and progression paths.
• Foster a culture of high standards and honest feedback.
• Manage hiring and headcount planning.

Build research into decision-making:

• Establish continuous UX research practices.
• Use customer insights, product data, and community feedback to inform product decisions.
• Connect research to key metrics like activation, adoption, and retention.

Help the team work in new ways:

• Promote practical AI adoption within the design organization.
• Keep the team current with evolving AI tools and design patterns.
• Model thoughtful and adaptive working styles.
