Senior Database Engineer, VP

Charles River Development (CRD) is the FinTech division of State Street, forming the cloud-based Front Office technology foundation of the State Street Alpha® Platform, the first front-to-back solution in the industry. The CRD Engineering organization is transforming the platform using next generation cloud-based technology including Microsoft Azure, Kafka, and Snowflake. State Street is one of the largest custodian banks, asset managers, and asset intelligence companies worldwide, providing investment servicing, data & analytics, investment research & trading, and investment management to institutional clients.

• 10+ years professional software engineering experience with enterprise applications backed by RDBMS or Snowflake.
• 10+ years experience as a Database Architect or similar role supporting enterprise applications.
• Extensive hands-on experience as a database developer on RDBMS and distributed data platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting database issues.
• Proficiency in SQL performance tuning in MS SQL Server, Oracle, or Snowflake.
• Proven track record of delivering high-performance, production-quality software on schedule.
• Ability to work independently, multitask, and adapt quickly to changes.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have:

• Expert experience with hardware sizing, configuration, operating systems, scripting, and database technologies.
• Experience with NoSQL databases.
• Experience with cloud database services such as Azure SQL Database or AWS RDS.
• Minimum 7 years working in Agile development methodology.
• Experience developing applications for financial markets (Fixed Income, Trading, FX, Risk, Portfolio/Wealth Management, Market Data, FIX protocols).

Database Design and Architecture:

• Design and implement scalable, performant, and highly available distributed database solutions.
• Collaborate with scrum teams to design and deliver database designs aligned with best practices and business requirements.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of database design, data models, configurations, and processes.

Database Development and Optimization:

• Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts supporting application development.
• Optimize performance via indexing, query optimization, and database tuning techniques.
• Monitor performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and recommend solutions.
• Define performance test strategies and develop toolsets for synthetic dataset generation.
• Implement and manage database security, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.

Database Administration:

• Collaborate with DBA team to troubleshoot and resolve production database issues.
• Monitor and maintain database health to ensure integrity, availability, and disaster recovery.
• Perform database installation, configuration, and upgrades in lower environments.

Collaboration and Leadership:

• Provide thought leadership on database technologies and data modeling.
• Work with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless database integration.
• Mentor junior database engineers technically.
