Senior AI Machine Learning Engineer

BlackLine is a leading provider of cloud software that automates and controls the entire financial close process. Founded in 2001, the company develops innovative solutions to modernize finance and accounting functions globally. This role focuses on BlackLine's AI-powered Invoice-to-Cash solution, a platform that uses intelligent automation to improve accounts receivable processes.

• Proven experience developing and deploying applications using foundation models (e.g., GPT-4o/o3, Claude Opus 4.x / Sonnet 4.x, Llama 3.x).
• Strong understanding of AI Engineering principles distinct from traditional Machine Learning Engineering.
• Hands-on experience with prompt engineering, few-shot and zero-shot learning, and defensive prompt design.
• Practical knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture.
• Experience with fine-tuning Large Language Models and understanding its appropriate use cases.
• Experience building and evaluating AI agents capable of complex multi-step tasks.
• Familiarity with evaluation challenges of foundation models and design of evaluation pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python or C# and experience with libraries such as Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, LangGraph, PyTorch.

Nice to have:

• Experience with AgenticOS patterns, including memory management and agent lifecycle orchestration.
• Knowledge of inference optimization techniques such as quantization.
• Expertise in multi-modal generative models (text, image, audio).
• Deep understanding of dataset engineering, data curation, augmentation, and synthesis.
• Experience designing end-to-end Generative AI systems including orchestration and monitoring.
• Hands-on experience with LLMOps principles and lifecycle management tools.
• Familiarity with Model Composition (MCP) techniques.
• Knowledge of Responsible AI principles and implementation of robust guardrails and safety filters.
• Familiarity with applying AI in the regulated financial domain.

• Design, build, and deploy production-grade applications leveraging foundation models for finance and accounting.
• Develop and implement robust evaluation methodologies for AI systems.
• Apply model adaptation techniques including prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and fine-tuning.
• Create and manage datasets for training and fine-tuning models.
• Build and deploy AI agents to automate complex financial workflows.
• Optimize AI application performance focusing on latency and cost.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement AI-powered solutions for CFO office challenges.
