Technical Engineering Manager - Data Platform

Our client is a global financial services organization recognized for its premium service, deep domain expertise, and strong technology-driven approach. The company partners with clients to solve complex challenges across investor services and capital markets. The Kraków-based platform engineering team focuses on workflow orchestration, data-processing services, APIs, integration framework, PostgreSQL models, and reliability and governance capabilities.

Engineering and Leadership Experience:

• At least seven years in software, backend, or platform engineering.
• At least three years in technical leadership, team leadership, or engineering management.
• Experience leading engineers and making complex technical decisions.
• Proven track record in establishing standards, mentoring, and influencing roadmaps.
• Experience building new products or leading architectural transformations.
• Ability to make pragmatic decisions with incomplete requirements.

Backend and Distributed Systems:

• Strong background in Python or Java.
• Production experience with Temporal or Cadence.
• Understanding of distributed systems, microservices, asynchronous processing, and failure handling.
• Experience designing REST APIs; experience with GraphQL valued.
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka.

Data, Cloud, and Infrastructure:

• Strong PostgreSQL experience including modeling and query optimization.
• Experience with production systems on Azure or AWS.
• Practical knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
• Experience with monitoring, observability, incident response, and reliability.
• Understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, and scalability.

AI-Enabled Product Experience:

• Experience contributing to AI-enabled products or working with AI/ML teams.
• Understanding AI integration with backend and workflow services.
• Knowledge of evaluation, governance, and operational risks of AI in production.

Financial Data and Enterprise Governance:

• Experience with regulated environments, financial data processing, integration, transformation, and SaaS architecture.
• Familiarity with event sourcing, CQRS, saga patterns, encryption, tokenization, access controls, and stringent SLAs.

Communication and Working Model:

• Strong communication skills with technical engineers and international stakeholders.
• Ability to collaborate across Engineering, AI, Product, Design, QA, and Cloud teams.
• Willingness to work from Kraków office 3 days/week and travel quarterly.
• Existing right to work in Poland; no visa sponsorship.

Technical and People Leadership:

• Provide technical and people leadership to the platform engineering team in Kraków.
• Establish scalable engineering practices, architectural standards, and decision-making principles.
• Mentor engineers and support their professional development.
• Partner with senior technical leadership in the US on platform direction and priorities.
• Create an environment for independent engineering aligned with architecture and product goals.

Workflow and Data Platform Architecture:

• Lead architecture of the workflow orchestration layer built around Temporal.
• Guide design of durable, idempotent, fault-tolerant, and observable data-processing workflows.
• Oversee the PostgreSQL data model including integration configuration, transformation versioning, execution history, and data lineage.
• Shape architecture of REST and GraphQL APIs, core platform services, and customer integrations.
• Define patterns for retries, replay, recovery, workflow versioning, compensation, and partial-failure handling.
• Ensure separation between platform layer and AI capabilities.

Reliability, Security, and Governance:

• Establish platform reliability practices including SLAs, monitoring, incident response, and disaster recovery.
• Guide implementation of audit trails, immutable logging, access controls, data masking, and encryption.
• Ensure secure processing and traceability of sensitive financial data.
• Collaborate with Cloud Engineering on infrastructure, deployment, and security.

Product Delivery and Collaboration:

• Work closely with AI Engineering, Product, Design, QA, and Cloud Engineering teams.
• Translate product and customer requirements into technical decisions.
• Balance pilot timelines with long-term architecture and governance.
• Provide technical direction on complex architectural or production problems.
