Senior Data Engineer

BlackLine is a technology-based company specializing in cloud software that automates and controls the entire financial close process. This role is part of the AI-powered Invoice-to-Cash (I2C) solution, a market-leading platform enhancing accounts receivable processes with intelligent automation.

• Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake, including data modelling, performance tuning, cost optimization, clustering, and native security features.
• Solid proficiency with Power BI, including semantic models (DAX, Power Query), enterprise report design, row-level security, and incremental refresh.
• Proven experience building and operating production ELT/ETL pipelines using dbt, Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory, or similar tools.
• Expert-level SQL and working knowledge of at least one general-purpose language (preferably Python) for data processing and automation.
• Experience using AI-driven development tools (such as Cursor, Claude) to improve data engineering velocity and quality.
• Strong data quality and observability mindset, building monitoring, alerting, and testing into data pipelines.
• Ability to work independently on well-scoped initiatives from ambiguous requirements to reliable data products.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to translate technical data concepts and collaborate across time zones.

Nice to have:

• Experience in regulated industries such as finance, accounting, or fintech, with sensitivity to data governance and compliance.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, cloud-native architectures on Azure or AWS, including Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, AWS Glue, or S3-based data lake patterns.
• Experience with streaming or event-driven ingestion using Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, or similar.
• Knowledge of Responsible AI principles and experience building trustworthy, auditable AI/ML data infrastructure.
• Contributions to open-source data tooling or interest in emerging modern data stack patterns.

Build and Govern Data Pipelines:

• Design, implement, and maintain robust ELT/ETL pipelines using tools like dbt, Apache Airflow, and Azure Data Factory.
• Ensure reliable movement and transformation of data into analytics-ready datasets in Snowflake.

Deliver Trusted Analytics with Power BI:

• Develop enterprise-grade Power BI reports and dashboards.
• Build semantic models including DAX and Power Query, row-level security, and governed BI layers.

Contribute to Data Platform Architecture:

• Help shape end-to-end data architecture on Snowflake, ensuring scalability, cost-efficiency, and reliability.

Champion Modern Data Modelling:

• Apply best-in-class transformation practices producing modular, well-tested, and documented data models.

Champion AI-Accelerated Development:

• Use and promote AI-driven development tools like Cursor and Claude to accelerate development and query optimization.

Build in Data Quality and Observability:

• Integrate data quality frameworks, automated testing, and monitoring into data pipelines.

Grow and Share Your Craft:

• Perform code reviews, maintain documentation, and share knowledge on data modelling, optimization, and BI best practices.

Collaborate Across the Organization:

• Partner with software engineers, product managers, and finance stakeholders to translate data needs into reliable products.
