Senior AI Machine Learning Engineer

BlackLine is a technology-based company specializing in cloud software that automates and controls the entire financial close process. Founded in 2001, it aims to modernize finance and accounting for greater operational effectiveness and agility worldwide. This role is focused on the AI-powered Invoice-to-Cash solution, a platform that uses intelligent automation to improve accounts receivable processes.

• Proven experience developing and deploying applications using foundation models (e.g., GPT-4o/o3, Claude Opus 4.x, Sonnet 4.x, Llama 3.x).
• Strong understanding of AI Engineering principles.
• Hands-on experience with prompt engineering, few-shot and zero-shot learning, and defensive prompt design.
• Practical knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture.
• Experience fine-tuning LLMs and distinguishing between fine-tuning and RAG usage.
• Experience building and evaluating AI agents for multi-step tasks.
• Familiarity with evaluation challenges of foundation models and designing evaluation pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python or C# and experience with libraries/frameworks such as Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, LangGraph, PyTorch.

Nice to have:

• Experience with AgenticOS patterns for autonomous systems.
• Knowledge of inference optimization techniques like quantization.
• Expertise in multi-modal generative models (text, image, audio).
• Deep understanding of dataset engineering and Generative AI system design.
• Experience with LLMOps principles and lifecycle management tools.
• Experience with Model Composition (MCP) techniques.
• Deep knowledge of Responsible AI principles and implementing safety and ethical guardrails.
• Familiarity with financial domain challenges applying AI in regulated industries.

• Design, build, and deploy production-grade applications leveraging foundation models.
• Develop and implement evaluation methodologies for open-ended AI systems.
• Apply model adaptation techniques such as prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and fine-tuning.
• Create and manage datasets for training and fine-tuning models.
• Build and deploy AI agents automating complex financial workflows.
• Optimize AI application performance for latency and cost.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement AI-powered solutions addressing CFO office challenges.
