Backend Engineer

HSBC Technology Poland is building the next generation of secure, scalable, and resilient messaging platforms to connect their global business. The platform centralizes delivery of messages to the bank’s customers over outbound channels aligned to business strategy. The role is based in Kraków and is permanent, part of a multi-disciplinary Agile team working on modernizing and standardizing evolving systems/components.

• Senior experience in Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience building and running services on Kubernetes.
• Practical experience with Cloud, particularly Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Strong knowledge of API design standards, including OpenAPI 3.0 / Swagger, REST API, and JSON.
• Experience with CI/CD toolchains including GitHub, Jira, Jenkins (shared libraries), Maven, and Groovy.
• Knowledge of service security, including OAuth 2.0 authentication/authorization.
• Experience with Kong API Gateway.
• Solid understanding of Agile testing discipline (e.g., TDD) and strong Agile/Scrum delivery experience.
• Ability to learn new technologies and business domains quickly and apply them to real delivery challenges.

• Build high-quality applications/systems to agreed requirements, on time, and to Group/local standards.
• Design and deliver distributed systems using modern stacks; quickly learn and apply new technologies.
• Write efficient, secure, resilient, performant, and operable code that manages dependencies.
• Perform unit testing and help establish/maintain appropriate automated test coverage.
• Review and challenge code, design, and implementation to ensure top quality and alignment with HSBC/industry standards.
• Maintain expert knowledge across relevant platforms; stay current with tools and technology trends.
• Collaborate closely with Agile teams (engineering, QA, product, architecture, operations) and partner with stakeholders to translate requirements into solutions.
• Drive innovation, strong problem-solving/decision-making, and accountability for control and compliance across engineering.
