Senior Engineering Manager

Remitly is a financial services company specializing in global money movement and trusted financial services, operating since 2011 with over 2,800 employees worldwide. The Kraków engineering teams focus on platforms supporting high-throughput, high-availability financial services on AWS, including money movement, financial instruments platform, and user financial accounts.

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 10 years of software development experience including backend technologies such as Java, Kotlin, and Go.
• More than 5 years managing engineering teams, with experience in platform or distributed-systems teams.
• Experience building and scaling distributed systems on public cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP, ideally in regulated or high-availability domains.
• Proven track record mentoring and growing engineers up to Senior and Staff level and coaching emerging leaders.
• Experience leading multiple sub-teams or guiding through tech leads and emerging managers.
• Skilled in hiring and technically interviewing candidates across levels.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication across time zones with sound judgment and decisiveness.

• Own all aspects of people management including hiring, team structure, performance management, and career development for engineers up to senior and staff level.
• Set and drive multi-quarter technical and delivery strategy in partnership with product and platform leadership.
• Lead the team through complex initiatives such as new-market launches, platform migrations, or scaling services.
• Partner with senior and staff engineers on architecture and technical direction ensuring correctness, reliability, and maintainability in regulated, high-availability systems.
• Represent the team across cross-functional and cross-timezone stakeholders, influencing without authority and escalating when necessary.
• Champion engineering and operational best practices, define metrics and processes for delivery health, quality, and on-call excellence.
