Senior Software Engineer (Platform/Java) Poland

Sprout Social is a company processing tens of billions of social messages daily with a collaborative cross-functional Engineering team spanning mobile, front-end, back-end, and site reliability engineering focused on scaling and reliability of their platform.

• Minimum 4 years of experience developing and supporting software in a production environment.
• Minimum 3 years programming experience in object-oriented languages such as Java, Python, or C++.
• Professional proficiency in English verbal and written communication.
• Preferred: 3 years experience developing and supporting scalable, distributed backend services.
• Preferred: 3 years experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
• Preferred: Professional proficiency in Polish verbal and written communication.

• Build, scale, ship, and monitor the platform reliably using Java, Python, MySQL, NSQ, Hbase, AWS, and Kubernetes.
• Partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements and complete features.
• Improve processes, systems, and tools to deliver quality products.
• Ensure project quality and planning by meeting deadlines, breaking down work, and ensuring proper testing and monitoring.
• Mentor other engineers through knowledge sharing and feedback on pull requests and designs.
• Deploy and make changes to production systems.
• Interact with SQL or NoSQL data stores and NSQ messaging queues.
• Collaborate regularly to deliver value to users.
• Monitor health of services in production proactively.
• Decompose work into small units for estimation.
• Create and prioritize quarterly team goals within an Agile culture.
• Participate in technical design meetings.
• Work with product managers, UX developers, and front-end engineers on MVPs.
• Serve as first line of defense during support duty for outages and bugs.
• Maintain, scale, and build systems handling millions of requests daily.
• Integrate and use monitoring and alerting tools.
• Act as point person on projects including prototyping and writing design documents.
• Create and manage concurrent, distributed systems.
• Attend in-house presentations, workshops, and training.
• Partner with Infrastructure for service reliability and availability.
• Communicate transparently to mitigate risks and missed deadlines.
• Lead technical architecture meetings.
• Identify and plan to fix technical debt and performance bottlenecks.
• Mentor junior engineers and help them grow technically.
• Build connections through networking and community building.
• Contribute to technical presentations and workshops.

This role is remote-based within Poland only. Candidates outside of Poland or in other EMEA locations are not eligible for hire at this time.
