Senior Software Engineer (Platform/Scala)

Sprout Social is a company with an Engineering team located in Kraków. The Engineering team handles a high-scale platform processing tens of billions of requests and asynchronous events daily, ingesting billions of social messages, and shipping over 1,000 production deployments every month. The product is a suite allowing engineers to diversify skills by moving across teams.

• 4 years experience developing and supporting software in a production environment.
• 3 years experience programming in object-oriented languages such as Scala or other JVM languages.
• 3 years experience with functional programming paradigms and ecosystems (e.g., Scala Cats, ZIO).
• Professional English proficiency in verbal and written communication.

Nice to have:

• 3 years experience developing and supporting scalable, distributed backend services.
• 3 years experience working with SQL databases and relational databases.
• Professional Polish proficiency in verbal and written communication.

• Build, scale, ship, and monitor the platform reliably leveraging technologies such as Scala, Python, MySQL, Clickhouse, Redis, Kafka, Qdrant, and Solr.
• Partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements and complete feature work.
• Improve processes, systems, and tools to deliver quality products.
• Ensure project quality and planning by meeting deadlines, breaking down work, and ensuring proper testing and monitoring.
• Mentor other engineers through knowledge sharing and feedback on PRs and technical designs.

Within 1 month:

• Participate in onboarding and training on company mission, values, and products.
• Plan initial priorities and align expectations with manager.
• Collaborate on code deployment and deliver first code changes with mentorship.

Within 3 months:

• Ensure code quality with test coverage and legibility.
• Understand team's roadmap and Agile processes.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
• Build connections with other teams.
• Attend technical design meetings.
• Maintain systems handling hundreds of thousands of messages daily.
• Attend presentations, workshops, and training.

Within 6 months:

• Independently own and deliver stories per acceptance criteria and mockups.
• Prioritize quarterly goals with product manager and engineers.
• Collaborate on new feature MVPs.
• Engage in performance conversations for professional growth.

Within 12 months:

• Deliver small-to-medium features on time.
• Integrate monitoring and alerting tools.
• Participate in architecture discussions.
• Understand engineering solution trade-offs.
• Contribute to technical initiatives improving system health.
• Help maintain frameworks and dependencies.
• Innovate with unique ideas to benefit the team.
