Staff Software Engineer, Platform(Scala)

Sprout Social is a company with collaborative cross-functional engineering teams spanning front-end, back-end, and site reliability engineering. The team processes tens of billions of requests and asynchronous events daily, ingesting billions of social messages and deploying production updates frequently. The product is a suite allowing engineers to move across teams and diversify skills without changing companies.

• 7+ years experience developing and supporting software in production.
• 5+ years experience programming in object-oriented languages such as Scala and/or other JVM languages.
• 5+ years experience with functional programming paradigms and ecosystems.
• 3+ years experience leading engineering projects and initiatives, including distributed systems design and delivery.
• Professional proficiency in English (verbal and written).

Preferred:

• 5+ years experience developing and supporting scalable, distributed backend services.
• 3 years experience working with SQL databases.
• Professional proficiency in Polish (verbal and written).

• Ensure service excellence and maintain robust, scalable technical foundations using technologies such as Scala, MySQL, Clickhouse, Redis, Kafka, NSQ, AWS, Python, and Java.
• Lead the team through complex product and technical roadmaps to achieve successful outcomes.
• Improve processes, systems, and tools to deliver quality products and champion technical initiatives.
• Build processes to proactively identify and address technical issues or escalate them for prioritization.
• Provide technical mentoring to engineers through pairing, documentation, and workshops.
• Complete new hire training and get acclimated to team objectives and roadmaps.
• Deploy and make changes to production systems.
• Collaborate regularly with product managers, designers, and engineers.
• Lead initiatives as the access domain’s technical owner, coordinating with stakeholders.
• Lead feature delivery with cross-functional teams, breaking down deliverables into MVP and milestones.
• Participate actively in code reviews and retrospectives, providing guidance and feedback.
• Foster a positive team culture and prioritize quarterly team goals.
• Serve as first line of defense against product outages and bugs while on support duty.
• Design, create, and maintain access platform solutions at internet scale cost-effectively.
• Enhance monitoring and alerting tools to identify problems proactively.
• Identify and plan to improve technical debt and performance bottlenecks.
• Partner with engineers to iterate on technical strategy aligned with the vision.
• Lead technical design planning and facilitate peer reviews of new feature ideas.
• Mentor engineers for technical growth.
• Author and work towards a career growth plan.
• Own cross-organizational projects and architecture demonstrating leadership and project management.
• Mitigate risks of delivery failure and missed deadlines with transparent communication.
• Contribute to technical presentations and workshops sharing expertise.
• Use unique ideas to benefit the team.

This position is remote within Poland or based in Kraków office. Candidates located outside Poland within EMEA are not eligible for hire at this time.
