Software Engineer, Payment Operations

Wingspan is the first payroll platform designed for independent contractors and their businesses. It is a Series B startup based in NYC with distributed teams in the USA, Poland, and the UK. The company is backed by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Touring Capital, and notable operators including CEOs and founders of Warby Parker, Harry's, Allbirds, Invision, and Flatiron Health.

• 3+ years of software engineering or related experience with payment systems, backend services, or data pipelines.
• Strong SQL skills; comfortable writing standalone scripts and using AI tools such as Claude Code and OpenAI.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, backend services, with experience in Node.js and TypeScript as a plus.
• High autonomy and accountability; thrives in fast-moving environments and prioritizes action over escalation.

• Design, develop, and ship internal systems and automation to eliminate operational toil, owning problems end-to-end.
• Build and maintain reconciliation infrastructure aligning ledger, bank records, and transaction data automatically at scale.
• Develop monitoring and alerting systems for funding health issues and payment anomalies in real time.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Finance to identify operational patterns and implement platform-level improvements.
• Share knowledge, participate in code reviews, and improve team processes and automation.
