Analytics Engineer

Asana is a leading platform for human + AI collaboration with 13+ offices worldwide. The role is within the Data Science & Analytics team, which turns data into actionable insights to influence product and business decisions.

• 4+ years experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or related fields.
• Advanced proficiency with SQL and strong fundamentals in data modeling (dimensional, star/snowflake schemas, semantic layers).
• Hands-on experience with transformation frameworks (dbt or equivalent), orchestration tools (Airflow), version control (Git), and modern warehouse/lakehouse platforms (Databricks preferred).
• Experience with data quality testing, schema management, data contracts, and query/model performance tuning.
• Domain knowledge in at least one business area such as PLG funnels, marketing attribution, or revenue.
• Strong skills in requirement gathering, prioritization, metric definitions alignment, and explaining technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Curiosity about AI-native analytics, including NL2SQL and semantic layers, with exposure to tools like Claude, Databricks Genie, Unity Catalog, Looker/LookML, or reverse-ETL/activation platforms (Salesforce, Marketo, Gainsight) considered a plus.

• Own the Gold layer for a business domain, designing and improving dimensional data models for dashboards and reporting.
• Implement canonical business logic behind core KPIs and manage versioned metric marts.
• Build and maintain the semantic layer and Genie spaces for self-serve data querying.
• Manage the metric dictionary as a single source of truth across domains.
• Author data contracts and SLAs at Silver to Gold data boundaries, ensuring data quality and freshness.
• Build certified, board-ready dashboards on governed Gold data.
• Partner with Product, Business, Data Science, and Engineering teams to translate ambiguous questions into scalable datasets.

About you:

• Independent ownership of data models with 4+ years in analytics or data engineering.
• Expertise in advanced SQL, data modeling (dimensional, star/snowflake schemas), and semantic layer design.
• Experience with transformation frameworks like dbt, orchestration tools such as Airflow, version control (Git), and warehouse/lakehouse platforms (preferably Databricks).
• Skilled in data quality testing, observability, and query performance tuning.
• Familiarity with business domains like PLG funnels, marketing attribution, or revenue analysis.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
• Interest in AI-native analytics and tools like Claude and Databricks Genie.
