[Vatix] Lead Data Engineer

Vatix is a profitable, bootstrapped B2B SaaS company founded in London in 2018, with an engineering team in Kraków. The company builds a configurable platform for operational excellence covering health and safety, healthcare quality, and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) use cases. Their platform is used by over 800 organisations and more than 75,000 people including major clients like Starbucks, British Airways, Dyson, Intel, Siemens, and the NHS. Vatix is growing about 40% yearly and focuses on a long-term, profitable business model.

• Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses such as Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake.
• Solid understanding of ETL, ELT, CDC, and pipeline design with judgment on managed services vs custom code.
• Strong relational data modelling skills with performance, cost, and scalability consideration.
• Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and data work.
• Experience with JSON, structured and semi-structured schemas, and API querying.
• Experience building data products or dashboards for internal or external users.
• Experience with AWS data services like Glue, Athena, S3, Lambda, and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
• Proven end-to-end ownership of data work, including roadmap planning and backlog management.
• Comfortable influencing technical decisions early in the process.
• Good judgment on trade-offs concerning quality and correctness.
• Openness to AI-enabled software development lifecycle and treating AI as a tool under engineering guidance.
• Excellent English communication skills to explain complex data concepts to diverse audiences.

Nice to have:

• Experience in B2B or enterprise SaaS, especially compliance or data-heavy products.
• Experience with embedded analytics platforms like Luzmo, Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
• A STEM degree or equivalent practical experience.

• Set the technical direction and shape the data roadmap and backlog.
• Design and own the data architecture and storage approach before product builds.
• Maintain and evolve the AWS-based data warehouse platform using Postgres RDS and Redshift.
• Build and maintain reliable and secure data infrastructure for customer-facing dashboards.
• Automate manual data workflows, including provisioning of analytics datasets during customer onboarding.
• Establish technical standards and validate AI-generated models and data pipelines.
• Mentor two data engineers through design discussions, reviews, and pairing.
