Software Engineer Backend (100% remote)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering buy now pay later products without hidden fees or compounding interest. The role is part of the pioneering Servicing International team focusing on global expansion and purchase protection features such as disputes and refunds. The team collaborates closely with European and global engineering counterparts to build scalable, cohesive solutions for new international markets.

• 4+ years experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
• Enthusiastic about occasionally working on front-end code; prior experience is not required
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components, with elegant and extensible designs
• Proficient in making significant changes safely in large code bases, with developed tools and practices
• Demonstrated ownership of personal growth by proactively seeking feedback from team, managers, and stakeholders
• Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with a global engineering team

Nice to have:

• Exposure to building web apps with declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue

• Own and deliver quarterly team goals and lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle
• Identify and advocate for solving project, process, technology, or business issues
• Support operations and availability through metrics, escalation, and on-call efforts
• Foster quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards
• Occasionally contribute to full-stack development, including front-end components
• Develop team talent by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example
