Software Engineer - Backend & Data (Eastern Europe)

At Spate, a machine intelligence platform founded in 2018 and funded by Y Combinator and Initialized Capital, we use data science to predict the next big consumer trends in beauty, personal care, wellness, and functional food. Our founders are ex-Googlers who led Google's trendspotting division. We analyze over 20 billion search signals to help top beauty brands develop marketing and product strategies, working with approximately 90 clients including L’Oréal, Estée Lauder, and Unilever.

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a software engineer, working on backend and ETL for web applications
• Experience collecting, cleaning, and analyzing large data sets
• Proficiency in Python
• Proficiency in SQL
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Project management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities at different timescales
• Proven problem-solving skills using deductive reasoning and understanding hierarchical relationships
• Self-starter with ability to work independently
• Located in Eastern Europe

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in at least one of the following tools: Power BI, Tableau, Google DataStudio
• Excellent analytical and customer-facing skills with attention to detail
• Experience working with AWS, GCP, or Azure

• Support customers and staff in understanding and exploiting the platform, data, and tools
• Ensure the availability of the platform, data, and tools
• Define and implement improvements related to security, quality, testing, automation, documentation, and new features
• Contribute to sprint planning, backlog grooming, and task prioritization
• Estimate effort for development tasks and assist in creating project timelines
• Track and report on progress and proactively address delays or roadblocks
