Database Administrator (DBA)

• Strong hands-on experience with at least one enterprise RDBMS such as Oracle (including RMAN, Data Guard, RAC, Exadata), DB2, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
• Ability to learn and adopt new database technologies quickly.
• Experience with shell scripting and automation tools such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, and Ansible, depending on the platform.
• Strong understanding of IT operations, including incident/change management and controlled production practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to explain technical topics clearly to varied audiences.
• Strong organisational skills: methodical, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities.
• Comfortable working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines, including providing out-of-hours support when required.

• Lead and deliver infrastructure initiatives such as platform evergreening, upgrades, standardisation, estate hygiene, and decommissioning.
• Build and manage database environments supporting reduced physical server deployments and cost optimization.
• Assess and deploy security patches and critical updates ensuring compliance with internal controls and risk requirements.
• Evaluate new database technologies and features; produce proof-of-concepts and support safe adoption across the estate, including cloud DB services.
• Provide internal consultancy on database design, resilience, performance, backup/recovery, and operational readiness.
• Produce clear and accurate documentation for internal publication such as standards, procedures, implementation guides, and runbooks.
• Report progress and risks to management with concise updates on delivery status, issues, dependencies, and remediation plans.
• Support change and incident activities including troubleshooting and root cause analysis; participate in an on-call/rota model.
