AI Gateway Engineer, Data Mesh and AI Platforms team

Group Technology at Nordea leads the bank's technological transformation supporting the Customer Vision and Business Strategy. The Data Mesh and AI Platforms team is part of the Integration and AI unit, providing integration platforms like Kong and Kafka, and extending these to an AI Gateway for LLM, MCP, and A2A patterns in a regulated banking environment.

• BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Informatics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Hands-on experience with API platforms and gateway technologies in enterprise environments.
• Experience with Kong, IBM API Connect/DataPower, or similar API management platforms.
• Solid knowledge of Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm charts.
• Expertise with CI/CD pipelines, source control, and automated releases.
• Proficiency in Python and Lua for Kong plugin development.
• Understanding of IdP integration, authentication, authorization, and access control.
• Experience setting up logging and monitoring with Splunk, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Knowledge of FinOps practices for platform usage costs.
• Familiarity with OpenAPI specifications, API contracts, and gateway policies.
• Ability to work with architects, security, risk, compliance, and engineering teams in regulated environments.

Preferred:

• Experience specifically with Kong API/AI Gateway.
• Experience deploying gateways on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Familiarity with cloud-native AI services like AWS Bedrock, AWS Agent Core, Google Gemini AI, or Azure AI Foundry.

• Design, build, and operate AI Gateway capabilities using strong API platform and gateway engineering practices.
• Implement secure and reusable gateway patterns for LLM access, MCP servers, and A2A integrations.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code with Terraform.
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, source control workflows, and release practices.
• Automate gateway policies to expose AI capabilities consistently.
• Create and extend Kong plugins with Lua and Python.
• Integrate AI Gateway with enterprise identity providers supporting authentication and authorization.
• Set up logging, monitoring, and alerting using tools like Splunk, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Establish FinOps capabilities including cost visibility and consumption tracking.
• Support onboarding new use cases and contribute to documentation and engineering standards.
