Senior Software Engineer (PHP)

We’re ambiscale, a one-stop shop for digital solutions building and supporting web and eCommerce products including custom development, optimization, DevOps/FinOps, and long-term maintenance. Our clients span Poland, Europe, and the US, such as Żabka, Biedronka, Brand24, and the University of California (Berkeley). We work on diverse projects and technologies, offering varied client projects without long-term focus on a single product.

• At least 5 years of commercial experience in a Backend/PHP role
• Very good knowledge of modern PHP (8.2+) and Symfony
• Solid understanding of software architecture principles including SOLID, Design Patterns, Clean Architecture, and basics of DDD/CQRS
• Experience with caching, queues, asynchronous processing, and message brokers
• Practical approach to tests, static analysis, code review, Git, and CI/CD
• Experience building secure RESTful or GraphQL APIs and addressing performance issues
• Confidence using AI in everyday work with critical evaluation of its output
• Ability to handle varied client projects and incomplete briefs
• Experience estimating work, identifying assumptions and risks, and requesting missing information
• Clear communication of technical decisions, including to clients
• Fluent English and Polish (at least B2 level)
• Independence, ownership mindset, and openness to giving and receiving honest feedback

Nice to have:

• Experience with Laravel, React, Next.js, Vue.js, Nuxt.js, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud technologies, SEO, FrankenPHP, Swoole, RoadRunner

• Building and scaling enterprise web applications and API-first architectures
• Analyzing client briefs, identifying missing information, and asking relevant business and technical questions
• Breaking projects into modules, selecting technologies, and preparing realistic estimates
• Ensuring performance, security, accessibility, tests, and code quality
• Profiling, optimizing applications, and integrating external systems, payment gateways, and APIs
• Collaborating closely with clients, Project Managers, Front-end Developers, DevOps, and QA
• Sharing ideas and contributing to improvements in architecture, tools, and workflow
