Senior Software Engineer (Java/Scala)

Box Inc. operates a critical exabyte-scale platform in multiple GCP and AWS regions, focusing on infrastructure for content upload, download, and collaboration services. The Storage Clients team develops gateway services that support millions of users worldwide, integrating with services like Microsoft Office, SFTP, and email.

• 5+ years of software development experience in distributed systems
• Experience designing, building, and deploying high quality software
• Passion for building highly available and scalable distributed systems
• Strong proficiency in Java or Scala
• Experience solving complex technical problems using data-driven solutions
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience
• Ownership mentality and strong teamwork skills
• Proficient in English

Additional points for:

• Experience with email clients, FTP clients, and SDKs
• Familiarity with GCP, AWS, and Kubernetes

• Design, build, and maintain backend services in Java or Scala
• Model best practices for system architecture, reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• Plan and execute projects and quarterly deliverables
• Measure system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups and sprint planning
• Conduct code reviews to ensure quality standards
• Participate in on-call rotation for incident response

Box employees are expected to work from their assigned office a minimum of 3 days per week, focusing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The compensation includes base salary and equity in the form of restricted stock units.
