Senior Back-end Engineer (Node.js)

SwingDev—a hippo company is the Polish branch of a fast-growing InsurTech product company – Hippo Insurance. They focus on making home insurance smarter and more proactive by using technology to bring fresh solutions, and create digital products supporting their customers.

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience with Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Practical knowledge of at least one relational database system such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server.
• Experience with microservices and system design patterns.
• Ability to participate in software design and architecture discussions and decisions.
• Independent problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication abilities to convey ideas across technical and non-technical teams.
• Demonstrated responsibility, accountability, and ownership in delivering high-quality work.
• Experience implementing the test pyramid (unit, integration, end-to-end testing).
• Effective use of good security practices.
• Willingness to learn and expand skill set as required.
• Regular use of AI-assisted development tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex.
• Proficient in English (written and spoken).
• Availability in the afternoons to accommodate multinational team meetings.

• Architect and implement backends and their interactions with various data stores and third-party APIs.
• Work in an agile environment on business-impacting projects.
• Support reliable databases and APIs for real-time automated decision-making.
• Deploy software using industry-standard tooling such as Kubernetes clusters and Lambda functions.
• Investigate and resolve production issues through code, data, and system behavior analysis.
• Implement robust automated test suites at unit, integration, and end-to-end levels.
• Work in a DevOps style following Defense in Depth security principles.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Senior Engineers, and Architects to translate business requirements into high-quality code.
• Take ownership and responsibility for your work, ensuring creative freedom to influence the project.
• Develop programming skills and learn about tech business practices, particularly in the US market.
