Manager, Engineering - AI Search Platform

Content Infrastructure & Solutions (CIS) empowers engineers working on content, studio and enterprise applications to be innovative and agile in supporting Netflix's global content production needs by providing scalable and resilient infrastructure for large-scale media, assets, data, workflow and communication use cases. Connected Enterprise Foundations (CEF), part of CIS, provides highly leveraged and fully managed data, search, workflow and messaging platforms for Content, Studio and Enterprise Engineering, aiming for a connected enterprise experience with consistent, composable platform primitives. The AI Search Platform team owns Graph Search, Netflix’s enterprise search-as-a-service platform used to index, search, and resolve entities across multiple domains. The platform operates at significant scale, serving approximately 19,500 weekly active users, handling 13.5 million API calls per day, and managing 233 production indices with 13.3 billion documents.

• Experience building and operating highly reliable platform systems for large-scale, business-critical use cases including 24x7 on-call.

Nice to have:

• Experience building scalable and reliable search, retrieval, or data infrastructure.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, vector and semantic retrieval, knowledge graphs, ontology and taxonomy modeling.
• Experience designing platforms where agents are first-class consumers with API provisioning and debugging rather than UI.

• Partner with Product Manager, engineers, and engineering managers to define vision, strategy, and adoption of search and natural-language search platform capabilities.
• Collaborate with Knowledge Foundations and broader CEF organization to align roadmaps across platform components.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to help engineers make informed decisions in complex situations.
• Define meaningful impact indicators, validate stakeholder needs, and prioritize high-value work.
• Own operational excellence of a Tier 1 platform including 24/7 on-call, capacity, performance, data validation, observability, and SLOs.
• Drive AI-first engineering practices, including agent-ready platforms and safe use of agent-assisted development.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders and communicate complex technical and product concepts effectively.
• Balance short-term business needs with long-term engineering quality through foundational investments and debt reduction.
• Lead, hire, coach, and develop a team fostering ownership, accountability, reliable delivery, and inclusive culture.
