Senior IT Monitoring Engineer (m/f/d)

The Senior IT Monitoring Engineer role is within the IT team in the Executive Board division.

• Strong hands-on experience administering Checkmk Enterprise/Professional environments in production.
• Experience configuring hosts, services, rules, folders, contact groups, and monitoring sites.
• Solid Linux administration skills (RHEL, Rocky Linux, Debian).
• Practical experience operating and troubleshooting Linux servers hosting Checkmk.
• Expertise in developing monitoring checks and plugins using Python, Shell, and PowerShell.
• Experience with log analysis, service management, and troubleshooting storage, memory, and process-related issues.
• Solid understanding of monitoring concepts including availability, performance monitoring, thresholds, and SLAs.
• Relevant certifications are an advantage.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong teamwork and customer service orientation.
• Proactive and transparent communication style.
• Very good written and spoken English language skills.

• Administer and maintain the Checkmk Enterprise environment, ensuring stability and performance.
• Manage hosts, services, rules, folders, contact groups, site configurations, alert thresholds, and notification rules.
• Validate host and service discovery processes and ensure consistency across monitoring checks.
• Develop and maintain custom monitoring checks and agent plugins using Python or Shell scripting to integrate customer-specific requirements and non-standard applications.
• Design and maintain dashboards that provide visibility into system health, availability, and critical alerts.
• Plan and execute regular Checkmk upgrades, patches, agent updates, and validation activities, including optional Linux OS maintenance.
• Handle service requests and incident tickets.
• Actively contribute to the development of the IT landscape through technical and process improvements.
• Serve as a key contact for Professional and Junior System Engineers, supporting growth through coaching and knowledge sharing.
• Take ownership of the design and scalability of the global monitoring architecture, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Collaborate with other departments as a consultant, translating business requirements into measurable technical metrics and creating audience-focused dashboards.
• Continuously evaluate new monitoring technologies and trends such as AIOps and cloud monitoring to keep tools and standards future-ready.
