Technical Engineering Manager - Data Platform

Our client is a global financial services organization known for premium service, deep domain expertise, and a technology-driven approach. They focus on investor services and capital markets, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing. The role is based in Kraków and involves close cooperation with senior leadership in the United States.

Engineering and Leadership Experience:

• Minimum seven years in software, backend, or platform engineering.
• At least three years in technical leadership, team leadership, or engineering management.
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical roadmaps.
• Proven ability to lead architectural transformations or new platform builds.
• Pragmatic decision-making with incomplete requirements and shifting priorities.

Backend and Distributed Systems:

• Strong engineering skills in Python or Java.
• Production experience with Temporal or Cadence.
• Understanding of distributed systems, microservices, asynchronous processing, and failure handling.
• Experience designing idempotent workflows and durable-execution patterns.
• Experience with REST APIs and preferably GraphQL.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies like Kafka, Azure Service Bus, or Kinesis.

Data, Cloud, and Infrastructure:

• Strong experience with PostgreSQL; data modeling and performance optimization.
• Experience with Azure or AWS production systems.
• Practical knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
• Experience with monitoring, incident response, and production reliability.

AI-Enabled Product Experience:

• Experience working with AI or machine-learning engineering teams.
• Understanding of AI integration with backend and workflow services.
• Familiarity with LLM integration patterns or frameworks such as LangChain or Agno.

Financial Data and Enterprise Governance:

• Experience in regulated environments like financial services or insurance.
• Knowledge of sensitive data processing, data lineage, audit trails.
• Understanding of enterprise SaaS architectures and event sourcing patterns.
• Experience with encryption, tokenization, data masking, and access controls.

Communication and Working Model:

• Strong communication skills with technical and senior international stakeholders.
• Collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
• Willingness to work onsite in Kraków three days per week.
• Willingness to travel internationally quarterly.
• Existing right to work in Poland; no visa sponsorship available.

Technical and People Leadership:

• Provide technical and people leadership to the platform engineering team.
• Establish scalable engineering practices, architectural standards, and decision-making principles.
• Mentor engineers and support their professional development.
• Partner with senior technical leadership in the US on priorities and delivery.
• Create an environment enabling independent engineering aligned with architecture and product goals.

Workflow and Data Platform Architecture:

• Lead the architecture of the workflow orchestration layer built around Temporal.
• Guide design of durable, fault-tolerant, and observable data-processing workflows.
• Oversee the PostgreSQL data model supporting integration configuration and data lineage.
• Shape architecture of REST and GraphQL APIs, core services, and connectors.
• Define patterns for retries, replay, workflow versioning, compensation, and partial-failure handling.
• Ensure reliable integration and separation between platform and AI capabilities.

Reliability, Security, and Governance:

• Establish platform reliability practices including SLAs, monitoring, incident response, and disaster recovery.
• Guide implementation of audit trails, immutable logging, access controls, data masking, and encryption.
• Ensure secure processing of sensitive financial data.
• Work with Cloud Engineering on deployment architecture and security posture.

Product Delivery and Collaboration:

• Collaborate with AI Engineering, Product, Design, QA, and Cloud teams.
• Translate product and customer requirements into technical decisions.
• Balance 2027 pilot timeline with long-term architecture requirements.
• Provide technical direction in resolving complex architectural or production issues.
