Engineering Manager (Database)

We are hiring on behalf of our client, a global provider of mailing, shipping, and logistics technology. The company supports global commerce with partners including Amazon, UPS, eBay, and Walmart.

Database and Cloud Expertise:

• Hands-on experience administering and supporting production MS SQL Server environments.
• Advanced knowledge of T-SQL, query performance analysis, database maintenance, and high-availability.
• Experience managing database infrastructure in AWS or hybrid cloud environments.
• Practical understanding of infrastructure automation using Terraform and PowerShell.
• Familiarity with C#/.NET environments and related applications.

Leadership Experience:

• Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing technical teams.
• Experience managing team capacity balancing support, incidents, maintenance, and delivery.
• Ability to set KPIs, provide feedback, and support career development.
• Involvement in recruitment and scaling engineering teams.

Delivery and Operational Management:

• Structured approach to incident management, production support, and performance monitoring.
• Ability to translate technical requirements into implementation plans.
• Experience managing after-hours support rotations and full operational ownership.
• Ability to maintain delivery momentum during urgent production issues.

Collaboration and Mindset:

• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Effective collaboration with architects, engineering teams, product owners, and business stakeholders.
• Commitment to improving engineering processes, automation, and agile practices.
• Professional fluency in English and Polish.

Team Leadership:

• Lead a database engineering team managing capacity, priorities, engagement, and daily performance.
• Mentor database administrators with feedback, clear expectations, and career planning.
• Address performance or well-being challenges affecting delivery.
• Participate in recruitment and cultivate a healthy engineering culture.

Database Operations and Reliability:

• Own day-to-day database operations including administration, monitoring, maintenance, and incident response.
• Ensure continuous availability, performance, security, and operational stability.
• Drive incident management, query performance tracking, and proactive maintenance.
• Support after-hours rotation and maintain up-to-date operational knowledge and documentation.

Delivery and Technical Excellence:

• Translate architecture and database designs into actionable tasks and sprint priorities.
• Balance operational fixes with project delivery and long-term roadmaps.
• Define and improve workflows, automation, standards, and database management practices.
• Serve as a technical advisor on database operations, infrastructure, and delivery.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Partner with database principals, enterprise architects, product owners, and engineering teams.
• Implement global security policies and compliance requirements.
• Communicate progress, risks, and improvements to team members and stakeholders.
