Senior Software Engineer (Senior UNIX Automation Engineer)

Sopra Steria is one of the largest players in the tech industry in Europe, known for its consulting, digital services and software development. The Polish branch, as the Global Delivery Center, operates in Katowice since 2007 and has around 1,000 specialists. The Digital Platform Services department specializes in cloud, operating systems, virtualization, databases, backup, storage, networking, and security. The Application Services department handles software development, data engineering, testing services, CRM, ITSM and ERP platform integrations for customers across Scandinavia, Benelux, France, Germany, Switzerland and the UK.

• Strong Linux/Unix system administration experience, including storage management (LVM, filesystems, NFS) and enterprise-scale infrastructure operations.
• Hands-on expertise with Ansible, AAP (Ansible Tower/AWX), Red Hat Satellite, EfficientIP, Python, Bash, GitLab, and CFEngine.
• Solid experience with Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies and CI/CD principles and practices.
• Proven background in automation engineering, system administration, or infrastructure engineering within complex enterprise environments.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in agile and cross-functional teams.
• Proactive and detail-oriented.
• Fluent English language skills (B2/C1).
• EU citizenship.
• Willingness to undertake occasional business trips abroad and visits to the Katowice office.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Terraform, Kickstart, Podman, HAProxy, VTOM, n8n, ServiceNow integrations, or other workflow orchestration tools.
• Exposure to Perl/PHP automation scripts and AI/LLM-powered tools supporting automation, development, or documentation processes.
• Clearance.

• Design, develop, test, and maintain automation solutions for large-scale Unix/Linux environments including configuration management, patching, and system lifecycle operations.
• Build and enhance Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Ansible, AAP (Ansible Tower/AWX), GitLab, and scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
• Provide 3rd-level support for automation platforms and Unix systems, troubleshooting complex issues and implementing long-term improvements.
• Develop and optimize automated workflows to streamline deployment, configuration, orchestration, and operational processes.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and operations teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure infrastructure services.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, automation standards, and best practices to support knowledge sharing and operational excellence.
